چکیده

The present work presents evaluation and experimental verification of the use X-ray computed tomographic microscopy (micro-CT) for accurate characterization geometry, microarchitecture, stiffness properties bones. These are crucial designing building optimized implants joint dental reconstruction applications. High-resolution micro-CT scans would provide more detailed information about microarchitecture density distribution across patient Nevertheless, applications on live patients require invasive procedures involving small bone biopsy specimens. Alternatively, could be used samples collected from selected cadavers different age, gender, race groups to establish a database that providing useful information. investigated reveal trabecular is anisotropic heterogeneous. results also showed considerable degree parametric variability uncertainty patient’s bone.

Detection of trabecular bone microdamage by micro-computed tomography.

Microdamage is an important component of bone quality and affects bone remodeling. Improved techniques to assess microdamage without the need for histological sectioning would provide insight into the role of microdamage in trabecular bone strength by allowing the spatial distribution of damage within the trabecular microstructure to be measured. Nineteen cylindrical trabecular bone specimens w...

Three-dimensional microstructure of human alveolar trabecular bone: a micro-computed tomography study

PURPOSE The microstructural characteristics of trabecular bone were identified using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), in order to develop a potential strategy for implant surface improvement to facilitate osseointegration. METHODS Alveolar bone specimens from the cadavers of 30 humans were scanned by high-resolution micro-CT and reconstructed. Volumes of interest chosen within the jaw we...

Cone-beam computed tomography images of phantoms with simulating trabecular bone structure fabricated using micro-stereolithography.

OBJECTIVE Phantoms with simulating mandibular trabecular bone structure fabricated using micro-stereolithography were applied for a quantitative evaluation of cone-beam computed tomography (CT) images. MATERIALS AND METHODS Phantoms with a three-dimensional lattice, in which a square pillar was set at 0.10, 0.20, 0.30 and 0.40 mm at the edge, spaced at 0.60 mm, were made of an acrylic resin u...

A micro-computed tomography study of the trabecular bone structure in the femoral head.

The goal of this study was to characterize the trabecular microarchitecture of the femoral head using micro-computed tomography (ICT). Femoral head specimens were obtained from subjects following total hip replacement. Cylindrical cores from the specimens were scanned to obtain 3-D images with an isotropic resolution of 26 Im. Bone structural parameters were evaluated on a per millimeter basis:...

Detection of Fatigue Microdamage in Human Cortical Bone Using Micro-Computed Tomography

INTRODUCTION: Conventional techniques used to image microdamage in cortical bone require the preparation of many histologic sections which is inherently invasive, destructive, two-dimensional, and tedious [1]. These limitations inhibit evaluation of the effects of microdamage on whole bone strength and prohibit detection of microdamage in vivo. Therefore, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) ha...
